Steve –
I used the DW088K Cross Line Laser to install a drop ceiling in my basement. I found the unit was too heavy to clamp on the wall L-molding brackets and it fell and dropped over seven feet to the floor. I said awww fudge, only I didn’t say fudge. When I picked it up, there was none, zero, nada, damage at all. From then on, I attached it to the joists with the handy screw holds on the laser.
As to how it functioned. I held it up near one corner of the ceiling, turned on the horizontal beam and had a nice red line on 3 walls. It was easy to install the L-molding. All I had to do was follow the red line. I used the vertical laser to set up the main I-beams as well.
I had the laser turned on for at least an hour straight, and the batteries did not need to be changed.
I was able to make fine adjustments of the hangers without the hassle of running a string line across the ceiling.
I wouldn’t recommend dropping the laser in the future, but it is rugged. I wasn’t sure of this at first, because it didn’t have the laser locking mechanism.
I would recommend the DeWalt DW088K to anyone looking for a compact, rugged, line laser tool to use around the home.
