I have always been impressed with Makita tools and have several of them, however I was disappointed with this saw upon initial use. The saw repeatedly shut down when under load. Each time it did I removed the saw from the log and attempted to restart it when not under load. Sometimes it would restart, other times it wouldn’t without waiting for five minutes or so, and other times it would start for a second and then shut down. I checked for plugging under the sprocket cover and for excessive chain tension but these were not the cause of the shut downs. I checked the Makita website for the nearest Service Centre and took the saw to Guelph Tool only to find it closed. I then drove to Active Tool Repair in Hamilton who told me that Guelph Tool has been closed for over a year. Makita, please update your website. Active Tool told me that it would take about two weeks to assess and repair and there was an initial charge of $11 for an environmental fee. Since the saw did not work properly on the initial, and only, use Makita should cover this charge and simply replace the saw. I have used both gas and electric chainsaws regularly for over 40 years and never had this problem.

An excellent saw for occasional users who don’t want to mess with gas, motor oil and even starting issues. It cut much better than expected, I easily disposed of three 12″ trees. Saw has plenty of power for an electric saw and feels much more solid than the less expensive models I held at my local big box store. Also quieter and generally easier to use than the gas models… of course, with the exception of mobility limited to extension cord reach. You’ll need chain & bar oil and probably a small funnel to fill the awkwardly positioned fill receptacle… keep a couple of wipe towels on hand and don’t forget a good pair of work gloves and goggles. Overall, very pleased with my purchase.
